A PARK South pensioner fears his letters are being vandalised after he complained to the Advertiser about missing mail.

Dominic Connell and his neighbours went without any mail for several weeks over Christmastime, leading to missed bank statements, wage slips, and even cards and presents from loved ones.

The problem has since been resolved and regular deliveries have resumed to their block of flats, but now the 71-year-old is getting ripped and crumpled letters shoved through his letterbox and he’s not sure how they are ending up in such a state.

He said: “Letters can fit through my letterbox easily, it’s definitely yet they’ve been bent backwards and torn, which is unacceptable.

“It’s vandalism, plain and simple, it’s ridiculous, it's wrong, I’ve never had this happen before in all my life but since I publicly complained about the post, it’s happened twice.

“I don’t want to open them because then if I complain to the post office, they might claim that I’ve damaged them and push the blame onto me.”

“I spoke to one of the young lads who delivers post around here and he claims that I called them thieves, when neither me nor any of my neighbours suggested that."

This is true, though one neighbour suggested that the parcels could have been dumped somewhere.

Most of the missing mail was never found, including the Christmas present sent to Dominic by his daughter and and granddaughter which still hasn’t arrived despite being registered as delivered on its tracking number.

Dom added: "They say 'we're looking into it' but nothing ever gets done, it's frustrating."

A spokesman for the Royal Mail said they were looking into the alleged vandalism but couldn't provide a full response before our deadline.

In response to the missing mail issue, the Royal Mail offered this advice: “If anyone has any queries about their mail, they should contact our Customer Service Team on www.royalmail.com; via Twitter @RoyalMailHelp or call 03457 740 740.”
