PRO-BREXIT campaigners will hold a demonstration in Swindon town centre today.

The march is the first by the town’s yellow vest group, so called because of the high-visibility tabards they wear in a nod to France’s Gilet Jaunes protestors.

In a message posted to social media, organisers wrote: “All Brexiteers from across the county are asked to attend to start piling the pressure to ensure we are delivered the Brexit we voted for. I urge you all to attend in a show of solidarity and strength.”

However, the march by Swindon’s so-called Yellow Vests could meet opposition, with the town’s Trade Union Council and other groups planning a counter-demonstration.

A spokesman for the Swindon Solidarity Network said: “We will be joining with other local groups and concerned Swindonians to counter the far-right ‘yellow vests'. While the yellow vests seek to portray themselves as ‘pro-Brexit’, the reality is that this is a smokescreen for a raft of far-right rhetoric and fringe conspiracy theories.”

The protests will meet outside Regent Circus at 1.30pm.
