ALMOST 400 subsidised half marathon places remain for south Swindon residents.

The first 500 people living within the boundaries of South Swindon Parish Council's can get £10 off the registration fee.

So far, just over 100 runners have taken up the offer. But Chris Watts, chairman of the parish council encouraged more to sign up.

"The subsidy not only promotes health and wellbeing within the parish, but also supports greater participation to help ensure the half marathon is once again a great success, positively showcasing our town," he added.

Around two thirds of the half-marathon course is run around the South Swindon parish area.

Graeme Hardie, race director, said: "This is a great opportunity to any of their parishioners to get involved by running the event, and maybe even using their efforts to raise money for one of the many great causes represented by local charities."

"Running is the easiest of all sports to try and just requires a pair of running shoes and the motivation to get out your front door and put one leg in front of the other."

The Nationwide Swindon Half Marathon is on September 22. Early bird entry for those living in the parish is £22.50.
