OFFICERS have asked for the owner of a dirt bike showing false plates to come forward.

The Suzuki motorcycle was found in Penhill on Friday afternoon. Police suspect it had been ridden illegally.

Police took to Facebook to appeal for the vehicle's true owner to make themselves known. Swindon North Police wrote: "The motorcycle was displaying number plates for another vehicle and enquiries are ongoing to identify the true identity of the vehicle." Anyone who knows the bike's owner should call 101.

Police have issued a number of appeals in the last six months over motorcycles stolen around north Swindon.

Insp Andy Bridge said last year: "We know that the actions of a few can make life miserable for the majority of those living in the community. We are working hard to combat this behaviour with visible patrols and a lot of intelligence work going on behind the scenes to help us build up a picture of who might be responsible and prosecute them."
