A HIGHWORTH man denies leading police on a high-speed police chase.

Asher Graham, 21, of Cherry Orchard, appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court charged dangerous driving and possession of a offensive weapon.

The smartly dressed young man, who spoke only to confirm his name, age, address and nationality, pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The crown alleges Graham was behind the wheel of a VW Scirocco car during a police pursuit through South Marston that saw officers forced to accelerate to 80mph in a 40mph zone. Graham is said to have jumped three red lights.

Emma Thornton, for Graham, said her client denied driving dangerously and had a reasonable excuse for having a Stanley knife in his car, as he used it for work. JPs bailed Graham for the trial on June 10 at Swindon Magistrates’ Court.
