PLANS to convert a store at Greenbridge Retail Park into a 24-hour gym have been submitted to the borough council.
The Prudential wants a change of use for the unit set to be vacated by Office Outlet so The Gym Ltd can move in. It says internal alterations will be needed, including a large ground floor for the gym, changing rooms and an office.
Agents Lichfields said in their application there was a need in the area and there were no other suitable sites within or on the edge of Swindon town centre.
The gym was expected to provide 135 fitness stations and would enhance the range of services at the retail park.
They added: “The localised catchment area would mean the gym will not compete with the town or other district centres.
"The application proposals themselves represent a unique opportunity to enhance consumer choice in the east side of Swindon and will provide an additional leisure option to people visiting Greenbridge Retail and Leisure Park.”
