SHODDY work earned a Swindon tradesman a hefty court bill.
William Connors, who trades as Weatherproof Roofing, cold called his elderly people, carried out work that was well below standard and did not provide the necessary paperwork.
Now, Swindon magistrates have ordered him to pay £2,400.
Connors failed to provide his details, meaning victims were unable to contact him.
He did not give customers details of the 14 day cooling off period and cancellation rights and he didn't obtain written permission to start the work.
A spokesman for Swindon Borough Council, which brought the case, said: "Our trading standards team works hard to ensure that rogue traders are not taking advantage of people, especially the elderly and vulnerable.
"We are not afraid of prosecuting rogue traders and we hope this sends a clear message to anybody who might be thinking of ripping people off. Our priority is to protect residents from unscrupulous traders."
