SWINDON: A roofer convicted of aggressive and misleading commercial practice against victims in Swindon must pay £2,330.

Harry Connors, 20, who traded as Weatherproof Roofing of The Furlong, Down Road, Standlake in Oxfordshire, pleaded guilty to a series of eight unfair trading charges dating back to March 9 last year.

Swindon magistrates heard he failed to provide a 14-day cooling off period, failed to tell customers in Trajan Road and Parklands Road about cancellation rights, gave a fake address for his business and started work on one property without authorisation and then harassed the householder to allow him to complete it.

He pleaded guilty to all offences. He was fined a total of £620 and told to pay prosecution costs of £1,280, compensation of £300 and a £30 victim surcharge.

SWINDON: A woman who failed to ensure her son went to school in Swindon regularly between June 14 and July 17 last year has been fined £440.

She did not appear at court and Swindon magistrates found the case proved in her absence. She was given a £120 bill for prosecution costs and ordered to pay £44 towards victim services.

SWINDON: Daniel Buchanan, 34, of Valleyside, Kingshill was fined £660 for using a Honda Civic at Bourne Stores on June 25 without insurance.

The case was proved in his absence and he was instructed to pay £66 towards victim services along with £85 court costs.

SWINDON: Michelle Basson, 47, of Tippett Avenue, Redhouse, was convicted of making fake medical letters to enable a child to retake a school year.

She pleaded guilty to the charge and Swindon magistrates fined her £96 with £115 on top in surcharge and court costs.

SWINDON: Aaron Betterton, 18, of Bowleymead, was given a tagged night-time curfew for eight weeks after he admitted breaching a community order by failing to attend appointments.

He was re-sentenced for the original offences of assaulting a police officer and using threatening behaviour.

Swindon magistrates imposed a new 12-month community order.

SWINDON: Darren Knight, 40, of Dixon Street, was told to do 100 hours of unpaid work after he pleaded guilty to assaulting another man on September 11.

The bench made a 12-month community order and instructed him to pay a total of £170 in contributions towards victim services and court costs.

SWINDON: Christopher Summerhill, 39, of Sigerson Road, was banned from driving for a year after he admitted being over the legal alcohol limit.

Magistrates heard he gave a reading of 47mg when his Audi A4 was stopped in Dallas Road, Chippenham on January 14. The legal limit is 35mg.

He was fined £80 and told to pay costs of £85 with a £30 victim surcharge.

ASHTON KEYNES: Richard Weston, 42, of Windmill Road, Kemble was told he must do 100 hours of unpaid work for drink-driving.

The court heard a blood test showed he had a level of 316mg in his system. The legal limit is 80. He also admitted having no insurance or licence to drive the Ford Focus he was in when he was caught on September 28.

Weston was fined £70 and told to pay a total of £170 in costs and victim surcharge.

He was banned from the roads for 36 months and made the subject of a 12-month community order.

SWINDON: Aaron Axford, 26, of Cleverton Court, Alton Close, Penhill, pleaded guilty to damaging a woman’s flat-screen television. He was ordered to pay her £100 compensation.

SWINDON: Timothy Doran, 29, of Millmoor, Eynsham, Oxfordshire was detained in the court house when he pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis when he was in Swindon on January 19. Swindon magistrates fined him £100 and told him to pay a £30 victim surcharge along with costs of £50.

SWINDON: Dean Porter, 30, of Welcombe Avenue was told to pay £40 compensation to Wiltshire Police after he damaged a set of handcuffs. He was also instructed to pay £115 court costs and victim surcharge.
