She’s had to put up with drug users and sellers and prostitution near her house as well as needles and litter.

Now one resident of central Swindon is unhappy to find out that she will have to put up with a funfair a few yards from her back door for the next nine days.

And even worse, as the funfair was being put up in the car park behind the house of Adorabelle and Imtiyaz Shaikh, Mr Shaikh, 38, saw a man come out from the exit to the fair to urinate at the back of the houses backing on to the car park.

Mrs Shaikh, 35, said: “My husband saw him come out, and then after he was finished, he went straight back into the site. That’s just unacceptable. I’m very unhappy about that.

“But I’m not happy that I had not idea that this funfair was coming without any notice at all.

“Normally we get a note through the door about these things, but we had nothing at all this time. The first we knew about it was when the fair’s vehicles starting turning up.”

Mrs Shaikh says living backing on to the football club’s car park is often difficult saying: “I’ve been in conversation with the local councillors and the council about disturbance and anti-social behaviour on the car park - about the needles that get left there and the litter.

Owner of the fair Steven Hill said if the man seen urinating on the Shaikh’s property was one of his fair’s staff he was shocked: “That shouldn’t happen, at all. We have our own toilets on site and we should be using those. It’s not right.

"I don't know why any of the fair's staff would be doing this, I can't understand why anyone would do this."

“If it actually was one of us, and not just a member of the public, then this has totally shocked me.”

A Swindon Borough Council spokesman said: “The fair being held in the County Ground car park is very small with just a handful of rides and will only be operating until 9pm.

“Unfortunately, although the organiser has advertised the event, it appears that local residents were not notified individually that the fair was taking place. We have been assured by the organiser that disruption will be kept to an absolute minimum."

Some believe that there has been a ban on fairs at the venue, in part owing to incidents of public urination and while he posters for the fair put out by Steven Hill Funfairs say: “First fair for 35 years on this site”, that appears incorrect.

“It is not correct that there has been a ban on fairs at this location. A very successful circus was held on the County Ground car park a few years ago and there is no reason why the land cannot be used for circuses or fairs.”
