Council tenants in Swindon are likely to be asked to pay between £59.32 per week and £114.18 per week for their home.

Those are the lowest and highest rents in new charges proposed by Swindon Borough Council and due to be voted on by councillors on Thursday.

The council has been instructed by central government to cut what it charges for rents by one percent.

Of the council's 9,962 properties the vast majority, nearly 9,500 are flats and houses with one, two or three bedrooms.

Existing tenants will pay £71.29 for a one-bed home, £79.14 for two beds and £85.03 for a three-bed property. New tenants will be asked for a few pounds more each week.

The council meeting begins at 7pm on Thursday at the civic offices in Euclid Street
