PLANS to transform a historic hall into a family home have been submitted to Swindon Borough Council.

Hannington Hall's new owners hope to carry out restoration and renovation work on the Coachhouse part of the building which will include re-roofing and structural repairs to some walls.

The proposal sets out designs for a function space, kitchen and two small studios for occupation inside the house.

It forms part of a wider scheme of substantive repair and rehabilitation to preserve the heritage assets at Hannington Hall, facilitate their long term occupation for domestic use.

The building dates back to 1653 and the applicants are keen to sustain and enhance the heritage of the hall.

According to an architectural services company, the works retain the form, character, integrity and special architectural and historical character of the listed building using materials and methods that retain its significance.

The company saw no issue with the plans going ahead.

The council will discuss and decide whether or not to approve the plans at a future planning committee meeting.
