LABOUR'S North Swindon MP hopeful Kate Linnegar said Honda workers' lives have been plunged into jeopardy.

Addressing reports Honda is to leave Swindon in early 2020s, Ms Linnegar said: “If confirmed, this would be a bitter blow for Swindon. My deepest sympathies go to the 3,500 Honda employees and their families, as well as the hundreds of others that work in the supply chain – their livelihoods have suddenly been plunged into jeopardy.

“It must be devastating for these people to hear second-hand in the media that their jobs were at risk – was the government aware of this potential announcement? And if so, why weren’t the unions informed?

“And all this comes despite repeated assurances from our Tory MPs that Honda remained committed to Swindon.

“These high-skilled jobs in manufacturing are crucial for Swindon, I urge the government to clarify what it is going to do to protect the jobs of these hard-working people."
