A PEDESTRIAN crossing labelled dangerous by people in Wroughton will be inspected by an engineer for repairs.

Residents expressed concern about the Devizes Road crossing last week in the Adver, which easily floods every time it rains, forcing them to cross the busy road further down or risk getting soaking wet.

The cabinet member responsible for highways at Swindon Borough Council, Maureen Penny, has now confirmed engineers will inspect the crossing for improvement works.

The action could mean the issue will be fixed as soon as April.

Borough councillor for Wroughton Cathy Martin said: "Councillor Penny has agreed to get a highways engineer out to inspect and cost out the options.

She added: "she accepted that as well being an issue for people trying to cross the road in order to get to school, the health centre, the community centre, it's also an issue for the traffic which has to drive through or around the flood water.

"She hopes to get this done by the end of March, but if the inspection shows that further investigation is required, it may take a bit longer."
