POLICE arrested a man after raiding a house and finding a cannabis factory inside.

Acting on intelligence received from the local community, officers carried out the warrant at the address in Ridge Nether Moor at approximately 7am this morning.

Once inside, they located a cannabis factory in one room with approximately 10-12 mature plants.

They arrested a man in his 50s on suspicion of production of cannabis and took him to Gablecross custody for further questioning.

Acting Sgt Annabel Martin said: “We carried out this warrant based purely on information we have received from the local community – it is a great example of the public acting as our eyes and ears so we can take action against those who engage in drug activity and cause issues to those living in their neighbourhood.

“A number of weapons including a crossbow and air rifles were also seized during the warrant and we will be carrying out further enquiries in relation to these as part of our investigation.

“Although only a fairly small number of plants have been seized, they are clearly mature plants which have been growing for some time and were part of a very professional set up, with potentially dangerous electrical wiring which could have caused harm to those living nearby.

“I am really pleased that we have been able to dismantle this factory and would like to thank those who submitted intelligence in relation to this address. It is testament to the hard work carried out by Police Community Support Officers within our local communities who have been engaging with residents in relation to this intelligence. PCSOs have been fully involved in this operation from the outset and their involvement is really valuable when executing warrants of this nature.”

Anyone who suspects drug activity in their area is urged to call 101 immediately.
