A TEENAGER was arrested in Swindon this morning after members of the public raised concerns about youths acting suspiciously in the Windermere area.

Police were called shortly before 7am this morning after reports of three youths on two mopeds and when officers arrived at the scene they made off but were chased on foot.

A police helicopter and dog units were deployed to assist with the search and officers recovered a stolen moped, which had been abandoned by the group.

Following information from the public, a teenager was detained after making off from a garden.

When arrested and searched he was found in possession of small amount of what is believed to be cannabis, which has been seized.

A 15-year-old boy was then arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a Class B drug. He is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station.

Enquiries continue to identify the other youths involved.

Sgt David Tippetts, from Swindon South Community Policing Team, said: “This incident proves the importance of community intelligence in our efforts to crack down on these types of criminal behaviour.

“Two separate people saw something which didn’t seem right, so called us and we were able to take swift action and make this arrest.

“If you have information about suspected criminal activity, including drug dealing or anti-social behaviour, then please call us on 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress.”
