A 26-YEAR-OLD man from Swindon has been arrested on suspicion of theft.
The arrest came after police received reports of alcohol being stolen from a Waitrose in Marlborough hours earlier.
The theft occurred at around 10,30am on Friday morning.
When staff followed the suspect to challenge him, he got into a Vauxhall Astra and drove off from the scene.
Wiltshire Police officers received descriptions of the suspect and vehicle involved. Later that day, they located a vehicle matching the description approaching junction 15 of the M4.
They stopped the vehicle in Butts Road and arrested the 26-year-old man inside it.
Officers took the suspect to Gablecross Police Station for further questioning, where he currently remains in custody.
They then arranged for the stopped vehicle to be recovered in order to help them carry out further enquiries. Anyone who witnessed the theft in Marlborough should call 101 immediately.
