DOG WALKERS reacted with shock to the sight of police search teams digging on a popular Highworth common.

The officers are understood to be looking for the remains of murdered mum-of-four Linda Razzell. The 41-year-old’s estranged husband, Glyn, was convicted in 2003 over her killing - but Linda’s body has never been found.

Search dogs were earlier drafted into the police forensic search. .

Police have also been cutting back part of a hedgerow and digging earth in a corner of Pentylands Country Park. A large cordon remains in place.

The park, a large stretch of common land immediately north of Highworth, is a popular dog walking spot.

Today, walkers spoke of their shock at seeing the heavy police presence.

Lynn Holley, 59, with dog Charlie, said: “This is a bit of a shock. I’ve walked past that part of the field hundreds and hundreds of times.”

Eileen Stevens, 75, with dog Poppy, said: “I’ve been in Highworth for 14 years and walking here nigh on every day. To think that we might have been walking over something all these years.”

Denise Jackson, 55, with West Highland Terriers Henry and Dave, added: “This is a beautiful area where everyone walks. I’m so surprised something so tragic might have happened here.”
