MOULD and dampness is causing a nightmare for an Extension mum and her two young children.

Rebecca Noble of Lilac Court has complained that her council house is full of mould and ill-fitting features, including leaking boiler and radiators plus a broken door seal.

The mum is concerned that living in these conditions is having a negative impact on her health and that of her children.

Rebecca said: “The mould and dampness started over a year ago but it wasn’t too bad because it was manageable and it was mainly at the back door because the seal was loose.

“But since last year the windows have condensation every morning and over winter you can’t open them, so at Christmas I haven’t been able to, which has made the situation worse.

“My bedroom ceiling had what looked like train track patches of mould which has spread into my son’s room.”

Rebecca said she has even had a doctor’s note raising concern about the effect these condition were having on her seven-month-old daughter Codie-Leigh, who is now on an inhaler along with her older son Taylor.

The letter from Dr Robert Mundy said: “I can confirm that I would support the rehousing of Codie-Leigh Montgomery. She is only 27 weeks old and was brought in by her mother with a suspected viral-induced wheeze.

“Mum is very concerned and has brought brought photos showing widespread mould in her flat and while it is impossible for me to say whether that is related to her current symptoms, I would strongly support them to be rehoused in suitable accommodation, without widespread mould and damp.”

Rebecca said the situation is having a negative effect on her social life as well, she adds: “I don’t invite people round mainly because I’m embarrassed but also because people people in my family have health issues like asthma and the mould could be a health hazard.

“I just want to be moved now, At first I thought if they are going to fix the problems it wouldn’t have been an issue but the problems are too big now.

“I had the heating done a few years ago and ever since the radiators leak, the council have been out three times to look at it but it’s still leaking now.

“My daughter will be big enough to move about soon and its really not on anymore. With that on top of the mould and the leaking boiler this house is getting more and more dangerous. I just want out.”

Since speaking the the Adver, Rebecca has been visited by the council.

A Swindon Borough Council spokesman said: “We visited our tenant’s home today to fix the leak on her hot water cylinder but it was established this was not the cause of the mould.

“We have previously dealt with two previous incidents of mould during the last 12 months, but we have inspected the roof and there is no evidence of a leak.

“Condensation and mould growth may occur if a home lacks sufficient ventilation. We have given our tenant advice on how to prevent condensation from occurring in future.”
