A LORRY driver accused of stealing BMW steering wheels from Dick Lovett was caught by police when he became stuck in a barbed wire fence, a court heard.

Mircea Costin Talabusi, 27, of Broom Hill Road, Ipswich, indicated no pleas to the charges when he appeared before Swindon magistrates on Monday afternoon.

It is claimed he was one of three men who stole steering wheels from five luxury cars at the BMW Dick Lovett dealership in Rushey Platt on Saturday.

The men are also said to have stolen two MTECH wheels, car mats, a gear stick and car battery from a BMW 330G30 car, interfered with another white BMW, criminal damage of a perimeter fence and lighting, and going equipped for theft.

Of the three men, only Talabusi was said to have been found by police officers after he became caught on barbed wire fencing.

The Romanian national, who dabbed his eyes with a handkerchief as he sat in the dock, was bailed to appear before Swindon Crown Court for a plea hearing on Friday, April 12.

Under his bail conditions, Talabusi was banned from entering the borough of Swindon save for court appearances, appointments with his lawyers and to drive along the M4 in the course of his employment as a container lorry driver.
