A 46-year-old woman has been detained for carrying a knife.

While on patrol in Swindon town centre last night officers were responding to information about drug dealing in the area.

The woman was stopped and searched, no drugs were found, but officers discovered she had a knife.

She was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place and was taken to Gablecross custody where she remains for questioning.

A/Sgt Annabel Martin said: “As a result of some proactive foot patrols by officers from Team 4, we have removed another knife from our streets.

"This is another example of the important role the community can play in helping us to keep our streets safe.”

This week is Operation Sceptre – the national knife crime awareness campaign, launched by the Metropolitan Police in 2015.
