To mark BBC Wiltshire’s 30th anniversary, the Adver is helping it to compile your 30 favourite Top 30 hits from the decade.
And there’s a lot to choose from. During the decade 191 songs topped the UK singles chart.
Madonna was the most successful act in terms of number ones, with six - Into the Groove (1985), Papa Don’t Preach (1986), True Blue (1986), La Isla Bonita (1987), Who’s That Girl (1987) and Like a Prayer (1989).
George Michael was on eight, with two as a solo artist, four as a member of pop duo Wham!, one as a duet with Aretha Franklin and one as a member of Band Aid.
The longest duration of a single at number one was nine weeks, achieved by Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s Two Tribes in 1984.
Editor of the Adver Pete Gavan said: “There’s so many great tunes from the decade, it will be doubtless hard to narrow it down, but if you enter, there’s a chance you could hear yours, so please let us know!”
The countdown will be broadcast on Saturday, April 6 from 9am with Sue Davies.
