GALE-force winds carried on into the evening yesterday.

The Met Office yellow warning for wind remained in place until 9pm last night.

Wind speeds of up to 42 mph brought down trees in places across town, one tree was ripped from its roots on Penhill Drive and fell onto the road.

According to the Beaufort Scale winds reaching speeds of between 39 and 46mph is a light gale.

Swindon Town also struggled against the wind in its match against Port Vale on Saturday, niether side had scored at full time.

The outlook for the rest of the weekend is more settled, with some dry spells and temperatures staying in the single figures.
