POLICE say they are not treating as suspicious the death of a Faringdon man found on railway tracks near Swindon this morning.

British Transport Police officers were called to the main line near Uffington at 6.35am this morning, following reports of a casualty on the tracks. It is believed he was struck by a train.

The casualty, a 64-year-old man from Faringdon, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.

A BTP spokeswoman said: "The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Trains through Swindon were delayed for around three hours while 999 crews responded to the emergency.
