A VIGIL in solidarity with the victims of the New Zealand shooting will be held this Saturday.

Members of the Swindon Trade Union Council have arranged the event through Facebook, to take place at the Cenotaph on Regent Circus at 12.30 midday.

The vigil is to remember the 50 people shot dead during Friday Prayers in Christchurch last week.

A spokesperson for the event wrote: "Please join us in solidarity with the victims and to show that Swindon rejects the hate filled, fascist politics of the attacker and his ilk.

"The best way to show solidarity with the victims of far-right violence is to make sure we oppose it wherever it appears."

Australian-born gunman Brenton Tarrant filmed the attack on Facebook and posted a 73-page right-wing manifesto online which referenced British fascist Oswald Mosley and Norwegian terrorist Anders Breivik.
