A CHARITY is looking for motivated dog-lovers in Swindon to train and prepare dog puppies for their working life.

Volunteers will provide full-time care and education of a guide dog puppy from seven weeks until they are between 12 and 14 months old. After completing their time with their puppy walkers, the canine trainees go to school formal guide dog education.

One volunteer said: “I have been a puppy walker for nearly a year now and have Johnny who is 11 months old and Frodo who is 5 months. I love walking and cuddling them and having them as part of our family.

“We do lots of basic puppy training and socialisation with the support of Leanne, our Guide Dogs supervisor. The first thing people always want to always want to know is how do you let them leave you at the end, but our whole family is prepared for this.

“It doesn’t change how much you love them while they are with you and knowing that I am a part of the beginning of one of these amazing guide dogs' journey is the best feeling.”
