A SLOW moving anti-EU blockade is threatening to bring motorways across the country to standstill.

Brexit Direct Action has called on drivers to block major motorways around the country if the government does not leave the European Union on Friday, March 29.

The relatively new anti-EU group wrote on Twitter: “Several social media groups have been in contact to ask if we’ll help gather support for a national truck drivers protest if Brexit is delayed.”

Another tweet said: “Brexiteers all over the country are planning to bring this country to its knees by blocking the main arterial routes - M1, M6 M25, M62, A1, A55, M5, M4, M42, M55, M61, A66 etc.

“If you live close to one of these major motorways and are willing to take part then prepare to move at short notice.

The spokesperson added: “Don’t worry about the legal side of things, the national organiser is sorting that out.”

The group, an umbrella organisation of anti-EU twitter accounts, is only warning of the mass action so far - but after Theresa May officially pushed Brexit back to at least April 12 last night the protest could now go ahead.

If MPs approve the deal next week then it could be delayed until May 22 or even longer.

Highways England said it was aware of the planned protests, which have not been confirmed when or where they might happen.
