CLIMATE change activists blocked the entrance to the royal Highgrove House earlier today.

The group of Extinction Rebellion protesters lay down in front of the entrance to Prince Charles's royal home near the Gloucestershire village around 12 midday.

The group then handed staff a giant letter calling on him to declare and climate and ecological emergency.

The peaceful direction action caused a queue of passing traffic on both sides, and blocked visitors wanting to see Highgrove Gardens for almost two hours.

A police spokesperson confirmed the protest has now come to an end at around 1.49pm.

"We earlier attended Highgrove to help facilitate a peaceful and lawful protest.

"The protest has since ended without incident."
