A VIGIL for the victims of the New Zealand terrorist attack could clash with a Swindon Yellow Vest demo tomorrow.

The Trade Union Council will meet at the cenotaph at 12.30 pm on Saturday, when it is expected a Swindon Yellow Vest group will meet at the fountains further down Regent Street.

Jon Timbrell, chair of Swindon Trades Union Council, added: "This tragic attack is part of a wider pattern of rising Islamophobia, racism and fascism that we need to tackle here in the UK and abroad.

"The best way that we can show solidarity is by confronting and de-legitimising the far right politics that provided the ideological inspiration for the attack."

"We are all in it together in the fight against an ideology that seeks to sow division and hatred in our communities.

Kate Linnegar, Labour Parliamentary candidate for North Swindon, said: "We wanted to show our solidarity with the victims of the Christchurch attack, their families and the people of New Zealand.

"It is vital we challenge racism at every opportunity and fight against the rise of the far-right."

The pro-Brexit Swindon Yellow Vest group have been meeting regularly on Saturdays in the town centre since last month.
