SEVERAL objections have been made to plans for 190 homes and a conveniences store to be built between Swindon and Highworth.

The 6.5 hectare site on Catsbrain Farm would also have a new children's play area, seating and picnic areas and a trim trail as well as community allotments if developers Castlewood Commercial Properties get the go-ahead from the council.

Highways England suggested that more assessments should be carried out before the plans are approved because of the impact the extra vehicles of residents at the new housing would have on the A419 junction on Highworth Road and the A361 Rat Trap roundabout.

Swindon Borough Council's highways team also recommended refusal due to problems with a proposed path for pedestrians and cyclists on the bridge over the A419.

The Lead Local Flood Authority recommended that the plans be refused because the surface water management strategy not being in-line with the current policy, the way to dispose of surface water isn't proven to be feasible, and the developer hasn't proved that the development wouldn't increase flood risks elsewhere.

Stratton councillors discussed the plans at their last meeting and agreed to object to it due to the reservations expressed by the borough council.
