YELLOW Vests protestors dispersed after being met by anti-fascist counter-demonstrators in the town centre.
Around 10 members of the pro-Brexit group waited on Regent Street until the vigil at the cenoptaph for vicitms of the Christchurch mosque shootings ended at around 1pm on Saturday, before walking towards the fountain. A busker selling his own CDs and singing covers had already bagged prime position there. But the high-vis-jacketed group continued down the Parade chanting “What do we want? Brexit! When do we want it? Now!”
Anti-fascists greeted them at the other end and after exchanging a few words, the Yellow Vests walked back, now followed by anti-fascists, before dispersing so that only a couple from each group remained by the Fountain arguing with each other as the busker played and bemused shoppers looked on.
