A £1.6 million one-of-a-kind McDonald's served its first customers in Swindon today.
The unique overhanging extension, which rests on four thin columns, of the McDonald's on the Greenbridge Retail Park is the only one of its kind in the UK.
The plan, which has been five years in the making, has expanded the restaurant from 40 seats to around 120 and now includes self-service checkouts and table service using bluetooth.
It opened at 11am this morning and by 11.45 the car park was almost full, with one van seen cautiously parking under the main restaurant below diners having lunch.
Pete Norman, who came in to have a look, told the Adver: "It looks very impressive, I just wanted to come in and have a nose around.
"I'm not au fait with technology though, I like to go to the counter."
Franchise owner Carl Room explained to the Adver: "We weren't allowed to reduce the number of car parking spaces so by putting it on stilts we were able to create enough space and keep the landlords of the retail park happy.
"The view outside is nice, it helps it feel a little bit more relaxed.
"It's a large investment but we think it will be worthwhile."
