CASH from a Badbury Park developer kitty had helped fund a £54,000 redevelopment of a Broadgreen park, parish councillors heard.

At a meeting of South Swindon Parish Council’s finance committee on Tuesday night, parish staff outlined how almost £60,000 from a Community Infrastructure Levy had been spent.

The levy, which is paid by developers as part of the deal for them getting planning permission, brought the parish an income of nearly £89,000 since April 2017.

In the first six months, the new parish council had received £66,650. The bulk of that cash was likely to have come from the Badbury Park development near Junction 15, the deputy clerk said. Since then, the Community Infrastructure Levy receipts had fallen substantially. Swindon Borough Council was now granting planning permission without requiring developers to pay the levy, parish councillors heard.

Most of the cash had been spent on the refurbishment of the play area and green on Broad Street. A further £5,600 had gone towards fencing the allotments at Broome Manor.
