A SWINDON student will embark on a new challenge to help rural communities in Africa.

Millie Taphouse, 14, from Ridgeway School in Wroughton, has secured sponsorship from Richard James Estate Agents to support a four-week expedition to Kenya.

“The aim of the trip is to help improve living standards for communities in an ecologically sensitive and sustainable way,” she said. “I will help to deliver a number of projects supporting the local community, wildlife conservation and the environment, and see first-hand the challenges that face rural communities.”

Millie offered space on her T-shirt for firms interested to help her reach her £3,860 target.

Director and manager of the Wroughton office Ross Sutton said: “We have known Millie’s family since we sold their last home, and we were really impressed with her courage to take on the expedition and volunteer her time to help these communities in real need.

“We are a people-first business, so we like to get to know the people we are selling for and develop a real relationship with them. So, when Millie approached us, we were delighted to be able to help.”

Millie is still looking for sponsorship to cover all her costs."
