A NEW one-woman show exploring female rage through the story of a Greek goddess will be premiering at the Swindon Fringe Festival next month.

Alexandra Ricou will perform her show Monstrous for the first time at Artsite on Thursday April 11 at 7.30pm during her first-ever visit to the festival.

Monstrous follows the emotional journey of Hera, the Ancient Greek goddess of women and marriage, and examines the numerous hypocrisies and injustices women have faced over thousands of years.

Using dark comedy and spoken word, the performance piece aims to question how far society has progressed in terms of its ideas of gender and gender equality.

Alexandra said: “I wanted to write a show which looked at the ferocity of womanhood.

"Women are so often categorised or pigeonholed in society, and I wanted to create a piece where a woman took her space and spoke her mind.

"Hera is by no means a likeable character but I hope audiences can engage with her as a complicated, multi-faceted woman.”

Based in Frome in Somerset, Alexandra Ricou is a professional actor and theatre-maker who has trained on the MA Acting course at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts.

Tickets for her show cost £12 on the door or £10 when booked from swindonfringefestival.com
