LIFE-changing premature baby incubators have arrived at Great Western Hospital.

Last year, more than £200,000 was raised for hospital charity Brighter Futures to enable the Swindon special care baby unit to buy five of the state-of-the-art Drager Babyleo incubators.

This week, the first of the incubators arrived on the wards.

Nikki Taylor, senior sister on SCBU, said: “We are so grateful to Brighter Futures and everyone who helped to raise the necessary funds so that we could purchase these new incubators.

“It is so important that we give premature babies the best possible start in life, and these incubators will help to do just that.

"They are specially designed to cater for the complex needs that many of our premature babies are born with, and they will enable families to be able to care for their babies easier and remain close to them.”

The incubators are fitted with removable side walls and internal speakers. Parents can record the sound of their voices and play it to their baby while it sleeps in the incubator.

Brighter Futures' Jane Leighton said: “We can’t thank our supporters enough for this very special delivery of eight new incubators. Thanks also to the amazing support from our supplier Dräger and our wonderful fundraising partner, New Life."
