Wine lovers in Swindon have been invited to taste and judge French and American red wines during a special battle.

Eastcott Community Organisation, a group of volunteers managing Savernake Street Social Hall, will hold a wine tasting event on April 27.

The Judgement of Swindon is inspired by the Paris wine competition of 1976, known as The Judgement of Paris, which saw a victory for Californian wines.

Blindfolded participants will judge six different wines from both countries and rank them in order of preference.

Claire Fleming, organiser and volunteer at the Eascott Community Organisation, said: “It was first held in Paris and we thought it would be fun to bring this event to Swindon.

“Participants will taste six different wines from France and California. We will get them to score each of them.”

No wine tasting experience is required and only participants aged over 18 will be admitted as the event involves alcohol.

Tickets cost £20 each and this includes six glasses of wine, cheese and biscuits. All proceeds will go to support Eascott Community Organisation. Only a limited amount of tickets remain available.
