A takeaway restaurant was forcibly shut down by Swindon Borough Council because it had no hot water. But staff hadn’t thought this was a problem.
Tasty Junction which served everything from fish and chips to pizza to piri piri chicken in Commercial Road has since gone out of business after the authority’s food hygiene inspectors closed its doors immediately.
In a series of tweets the council said: “We closed a Commercial Road takeaway for three days last month. Our food hygiene inspectors visited Tasty Junction and found there was intermittent hot water. Two days later, the hot water supply stopped altogether and a hygiene emergency prohibition notice was served.
“There were no temporary hot water measures in place and the owners did not appear to think that a lack of a hot water supply was a problem.
“Preparing food without a supply of hot water for cleaning, disinfection and washing can pose a major health risk for members of the public, especially after members of staff use the toilet, empty the bins or handle raw food.”
The authority added that it had applied for costs but none were awarded as the shop had gone out of business.
