A LAW firm has praised the success of the 3,000-home Wichelstowe development

Ashfords LLP, based in Exeter, said the public private partnership between Swindon Borough Council and Barratt Developments PLC has created unique and high-quality housing.

It helped tie up the Section 106 agreements, which are are planning obligations imposed on developers by local authorities, to mitigate the impact large projects have on infrastructure and include more affordable housing.

In Wichelstowe this included two primary schools and a secondary school, open space and playing fields, and a community building.

Parter on the firm's planning team David Richardson said he was thrilled to be working on the innovative joint venture.

"I’ve no doubt the scheme will be a resounding success at a time when housing delivery is a significant issue both economically and politically," he said.

Kate Topp, a real estate partner, added: “It’s been very satisfying to be part of Wichelstowe’s ambitious growth journey and to support such an iconic housing brand and their expansion in this location."

"We enjoyed working with the management team to achieve this successful conclusion which will enable them to implement their exciting growth strategy."
