WILTSHIRE Search and Rescue has appropriately named its new incident support vehicle Wilfred.

The new name, which will be proudly displayed on the side life-saving van, was announced live on air at BBC Wiltshire yesterday after a competition.

The first part of the name connects it to Wiltshire and the Fred part stands for forever rescuing, exploring and discovering.

The charity, a team of professionally trained volunteers who provide assistance to Wiltshire Police in the search for vulnerable missing persons, secured £17,000 for the van last year.

The van will act as a control room to help coordinate searches for the volunteers.

Scottish Southern Electricity Networks awarded £10,000 from its Resilient Communities Fund, and Wiltshire Community Foundation donated a further £3,000 made up of money from the High Sheriff of Wiltshire’s endowment fund and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Grant Fund.
