Labour's South Swindon Parliamentary candidate Sarah Church expressed relief after the Prime Minister agreed to delay the Brexit deadline to avoid leaving the EU with no deal.

The Prime Minister and EU leaders agreed in the early hours of yesterday morning to delay the day the UK leaves the EU from tomorrow night to October 31, though Britain could still leave before Halloween if Parliament agrees a deal.

So far, the House of Commons has rejected Theresa May’s deal three times and repeatedly failed to agree a majority in any indicative vote offering alternatives to the Prime Minister’s deal which included a second referendum and leaving the EU but staying in the customs union.

Ms Church said: "I'm very pleased we're not crashing out of the EU tomorrow night. That would have been a disastrous result for families and businesses.

"We absolutely have to change tack over the next six months.

"The prime minister needs to erase her red lines and then a deliverable deal needs to be put back in front of the British people to decide whether the Brexit reality, rather than the Brexit fantasy, is something we want to go ahead with."
