OUTLINE plans for up to 2,500 homes to be built on the Lotmead site of the New Eastern Villages have been submitted to the borough council.

Existing buildings on the site off Wanborough Road would be demolished, converted or redeveloped into the new houses.

The area would also include up to 1,780sqm of community and retail facilities, up to 2,500sqm of employment facilities, a sports hub, playing pitches, two two-form entry primary schools, green infrastructure, road corridors to the A420 and improvements to Wanborough Road.

A previous application for the Lotmead site which was refused in 2017 proposed an extra 100 houses, an extra 500sqm of employment land and one fewer primary school compared to these new plans.

Swindon Borough Council refused the old application because it "failed to provide adequate and accessible services and facilities for the occupiers of the new development and did not deliver a balanced, sustainable development.which respected the social, environmental and economic demands placed upon it."
