Tytherton Ride

THIS years’ Tytherton Ride was the 35th running of the event, which was started by Brigadier George Powell, a keen sportsman, and enjoyed his riding. Sadly, Brig Powell died just days before the event. The Ride over the years has provided over £100,000 to good causes in the parish of Bremhill and for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

The Ride was held in his memory and was well supported with over 130 riders, some as young as four, who took on the mini ride, and the longer routes across the beautiful countryside. It was lovely to see George’s wife Jophy come to the start of the event and see off the first riders across the fields.

The event is part of the calendar in the parish, and is supported by many of the residents who come out to steward on the day,. Thanks go to them, and the landowners who provide the land over which the Ride takes place.

The weather was fine, and all who took part had a wonderful day, posting appreciative comments on Facebook. The Ride would not have been possible without its sponsors especially Dick Lovett Land Rover at Melksham.

Next years’ event will be on April 5.
