HOSPITAL charity Brighter Futures will get a £3,000 boost – in the form of unpaid councillor allowances.

South Swindon Parish Council voted to donate £3,031.25 in unclaimed allowances to the Great Western Hospital cause, which is parish chairman Chris Watts’ chosen charity.

The cash will go towards Brighter Futures’ current campaigns, including support for GWH’s cancer services. Last year, the charity hit its massive £2.9m radiotherapy appeal target, with the cash expected to help equip a new cancer treatment unit at the Marlborough Road hospital.

Coun Watts said: “I know people personally who have benefited from the work Brighter Futures do. Everyone is touched by cancer.”

Thanking parish for the donation, Brighter Futures chief Catherine Newman said: “It’s incredible. It’s amazing news. A huge thank you to them.”
