MAINTENANCE work on bridges along the M4 will begin this weekend.

The westbound section of the motorway over junction 13 at Chieveley in West Berkshire will be closed from 10pm on Friday to 6am on Monday while concrete repairs, waterproofing, and resurfacing work is carried out.The eastbound carriageway will remain open, but one lane will be closed for safety reasons.

Traffic will be directed to follow a short diversion across the junction interchange.A Highways England spokesman said: "We have worked closely with the local councils, the police and other stakeholders to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum during the work.Carrying out the work in this way will minimise overall disruption and reduce the risk of unplanned maintenance closures in future.

The road will close again from 10pm on Friday May 10 to 6am on Monday May 13 to complete the work. There will also be a number of overnight closures to install bridge joints, which are essential bridge components that help prolong the life of a structure by allowing controlled movement. The dates for this work will be communicated nearer the time.
