PUTTING your smartphone to one side, sleeping better and decluttering all feature on the new Mental Wealth calendar, published today by the Swindon Advertiser and BBC Wiltshire.

With an estimated one in every six people saying they experience a mental health problem like anxiety at least every week, according to mental health charity Mind, we could all do with boosting our mental wellbeing.

The latest figures from Swindon Borough Council’s public health team suggests there are around 27,000 people in the town with common mental health problem. In 2017/18, 18,580 people living in Swindon had been diagnosed with depression – equivalent to 10 per cent of the population.

The Mental Wealth calendar, which you can find printed on page 19 of today’s Adver, is about finding the time to make small changes to our daily routine aimed at making ourselves feel better.

Activities range from singing to drinking decaffeinated tea or coffee.

Adver editor Pete Gavan said: “We all know mental health is something we should be talking about more and more.

“That’s why we’re backing the BBC on this campaign. We want to help make a difference and get people talking about how they feel.”

Mary Sanders, editor of BBC Wiltshire, added: “Looking after our mental wellbeing as well as our physical health is so important.

“Whether it’s getting some fresh air, phoning someone you’ve been meaning to speak to or working out how to make some ‘me time’, the Mental Wealth calendar is all about making little changes in our daily lives to help us feel better.

“We really hope as many people as possible will get involved and we look forward to hearing about how you get on.”

Every day we will be featuring a different tip for boosting your mental wellbeing.

But we also want to hear from you about the different ways you manage your mental health.
