UKIP leader Gerard Batten will be paying a visit to Swindon on Monday.

In the run up to the European elections later in the month the leader of the ant-immigration Brexit party will descend on Swindon with its two MEP candidates.

Expected to show up alongside him is the controversial candidate Carl Benjamin, known by his Youtube alias Sargon of Akkad, who has been criticised after he failed to apologise for tweeting he "wouldn't even rape" Labour MP Jess Phillips.

Leader Gerard Batten has previously defended Mr Benjamin’s initial tweet as “satire”.

Mr Benjamin is the far right party's second candidate, and will be joined by Lawrence Webb, a former UKIP London chairman and the first candidate for the south west.

The official UK tour for the European elections will be stopping off sometime around midday in Swindon town centre before it heads off to Reading.

The European Elections are expected to be held between May 23 and 26.
