A CITROEN driver was killed when his car was involved in a crash with a parked lorry near Stonehenge.

The driver, a local man in his 30s, is yet to be named. Police said his family had been informed.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police called for any witnesses to the fatal accident to come forward.

The force said the man had been driving a grey Citroen car when it crashed into a parked lorry on a section of the A303 between the Countess and Longbarrow roundabouts, near Amesbury.

"Formal identification has not yet taken place but his next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them," a spokeswoman said.

The lorry driver was not injured.

The force added: "Anyone who saw the collision or who has dash cam footage is asked to contact PC Rich Hatch from the Collision Investigation Team on 101."

Emergency services shut part of the A303 near Amesbury for six hours while specialist crash investigators examined the scene.
