POLICE have issued a warning about heroin with a dangerously-high purity being sold in and around the Swindon area.

Possessing, producing or selling the class A drug is illegal and carries penalties of prison sentences and large fines.

Wiltshire Police released a statement to alert users about the potentially-fatal risks of taking a stronger form of the drug which has reportedly been dealt by dealers in the town.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "We have received information regarding a very high purity of heroin being sold in and around the Swindon area.

"Whilst we always urge people not to take illegal drugs, users of heroin should be aware of this higher risk of overdose and associated medical issues.

"Please seek medical advice if you have been using this drug and are concerned. We are investigating these reports and ask that anyone with information comes forward to help prevent drug related issues in their area by calling 101. “
