A SWINDON man who pleaded guilty to driving whilst drunk and disqualified in a car that had false number plates and no insurance has been jailed for 24 weeks.

Officers stopped James Keelan, 40, from County Road in Swindon and breathalysed him on the Drive just after midnight on May 14. He had 42mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - the legal limit is 35mg. Police found that he was already disqualified from driving for a previous offence and was using fraudulent number plates on his car.

Keelan appeared in Salisbury Magistrates Court later that day and pleading guilty to the charges of drink driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and driving while using a fraudulent licence plate. Along with a jail sentence, he was banned from driving for another four years and must pay £85 in court costs and £115 to victim services.

PC Luke Hobbs from Swindon North CPT said: "Drivers like Keelan are selfish, dangerous and happily put themselves, and the wider public, at risk as soon as they get behind the wheel of a car.

"The prison sentence and lengthy ban demonstrates how seriously Wiltshire Police and the justice system take this type of offence. We are just grateful that no one was hurt while Keelan took to the road."
