BARRISTERS will this morning open the murder trial into the death of former paratrooper Ken Kiley.
Dario Carboni, 25, denies murdering the 75-year-old British Army veteran in a hit-and-run on Southernwood Drive, Swindon, on July 8 last year.
The Londoner, of Gospatrick Road, Tottenham, pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at a hearing on September 14, but admitted driving whilst disqualified.
The trial will open today at Bristol Crown Court. The case will be heard before His Honour Judge William Hart.
Last year, Mr Kiley's family paid tribute to the "warm, gentle and unassuming man". They said: "He loved nothing more than spending time with his loving wife Marion and two sons Adam and Matthew, reading his history books, teaching German classes to his friends in Swindon and playing long distance chess."
